Finding Your Austin Neighborhood
Austin is commonly referred to as Silicon Hills, as it has established itself as a world-class tech hub, home to Fortune 500 companies, destination centers, and other Austin landmarks.
In a market moving this fast, the right advisor matters more than any map. As your relocation specialist, we match you to the neighborhood that fits your life, and give you access to off-market and "coming soon" properties other agents won't even be aware of, through our affiliations with private networks including the Austin Luxury Network, Clubhouse, and others.
Schools
Austin area residents enjoy a wide variety of education options. There are 29 public school districts, 27 charter school districts, and over 100 private schools in Central Texas. The University of Texas at Austin and 26 other public and private colleges and universities (combined enrollment of approximately 180,000) provide a large number of well-educated workers to area employers. There are an additional 95 four-year colleges and universities within 200 miles of Austin.
Healthcare
Austin's healthcare system rivals that of any major metropolitan area. There are 46 hospitals in the Austin area, including Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas, a dedicated children's hospital, over 4,800 direct patient care physicians, and approximately 5,000 licensed hospital beds. Even as one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the country, Austin has a better physician-to-population ratio than Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio.
Things to Do
There's a reason why Austin is at the top of every list of places to visit, live, work, and play. While the events and festivals may bring you here, the food, the friendliness, the economy, the scenery, and the art scene will keep you here.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best neighborhood in Austin for someone relocating?
There is no single best neighborhood; the answer depends on commute, budget, school district, and whether you want urban walkability or acreage. Central Austin areas like Tarrytown and Crestview suit downtown commuters, Westlake and Lakeway draw families prioritizing schools, and Cedar Park and Leander offer more square footage per dollar.
Is it expensive to move to Austin?
Texas has no state income tax, but property tax rates are high relative to most states, which meaningfully changes the monthly cost of ownership compared to a same-priced home elsewhere. Relocating buyers should model total monthly cost including property tax and insurance, not purchase price alone.
What is DestinationATX?
DestinationATX.com is SR Group's relocation resource for people moving to Austin, covering neighborhoods, schools, healthcare, and things to do, with a dedicated relocation specialist. It exists because relocation has been a core part of the team's business, and because principal Jeffrey Grant is an Austin native.
How far in advance should I plan an Austin relocation?
Begin 60 to 90 days out if you are buying. That allows time for a scouting trip, mortgage pre-approval with a lender familiar with Texas property taxes, and a real search window. Relocations compressed into a single weekend visit are possible but narrow your options considerably.
